Okoro and Nneka are in a contemplative mood. Their countenances appear gloomy. Okoro examines his son's huge academic successes and proffers a way of help. Okoro ( stammering) Ha ! ha! ha! how! how can we help our son pro...ceed to the next academic level? Nneka: Dear husband, when did you become a stammerer overnight? incredible! okoro: Do you take pleasure seeing your son around when his mates are in the university studying one course or the other?. Nneka: Leave him!take it easy! He has not grown beyond being admitted into any university. God's time is the best. Okoro: And i hope you will not expect him to become a fool at forty. Nneka: I'm not in doubt of ehat he can do in his first sitting of UTME. Okoro: May your good dream pf our son's future be fulfilled! Nneka: ( joyfully adds). Amen! meanwhile the two engages in a preposition relating to Nroma's future endeavors. Nneka: we that God for that. okoro: From all indications, he has intelligently proved himself a worthy ambassador of the okoros. Nneka: That's good. okoro: ( citing an instance) you can recall how he won the admiration of all the staff and students of his secondary school days. Nneka: oh i felt on top of the sky! okoro: He made nine A in his SSCE. A feat that demands commendation. Nneka: That means we are not indeed building a castle in the air!. Okoro: May God help us to get out of our poverty stricken status! Poverty seems to wreck a havoc in our family. Nneka: .... but it will not kill us. it will only delay but it will not deny us of our set goal of training our son. in the long run, we shall tell heroic stories. okoro: .... stories of how we denied ourselves certain comforts in ordee to raise a standard child. Nneka: a story that will carry the caption " from abject poverty to luxurious living" in our national dailies. Okoro: a story that will help others know how to cut their coat according to their size. Nneka oh! that i shall be alive to witness such a day!. Okoro: God shall keep us all alive Nneka: Now how can we help him? Okoro: since we have very lean financial resources, suggest we lease our land to a responsible person pending the time Nroma will be through with his bukuru. Nneka: only if the lease holder will not claim to be the owner of the land. Okoro: Not when all our agreement are well written down and documented. Nneka: lets go by that. At least by the next eight years, we shall have counted our gains. Okoro: By then the umunzes will reckon with the power of education. Nneka: Those who laugh last always laugh best!. lightd fade.
